WAREHOUSE RAVE: Studio Fifty Kong
Event Description
The Warehouse Rave takes a trip to the Big Apple, one of the earliest nurseries of the house music movement, to a time when the excesses of disco and the breathtaking grit of the towering concrete jungle birthed a harder, edgier style of dance. Soul, jazz, latin and hip-hop all contributed to what would develop into the New York sound, and our special guest this edition was right in the delivery room.
Meet Brooklyn's VICTOR SIMONELLI -- the man of a hundred aliases and your favorite DJ's favorite DJ. A producer, engineer, remixer, song writer, record label owner, multi-instrumentalist, and highly sought selector for over 30 years, his stamp is all over the very roots of underground house music. From 1987 onwards, he was working in the studio alongside names like Danny Krivit, Junior Vasquez, Lenny Dee, Arthur Baker, Danny Tenaglia, Masters at Work, and Todd Terry; and mixing and producing tracks from David Bowie, Will Downing, Talking Heads, Quincy Jones, Sinead O'Connor, and New Order.
Through the years, he's left his mark on dozens of genres and subgenres and hundreds of cities -- but has never played in Cambodia until NOW! The only way to really experience this artist's encyclopedic knowledge of dance music is to give him an extended set to work his magic, and so we did!
On opening duties, we have rising Khmer star Marie Thach and her signature soulful sound; plus resident Justfin for a late night bounce.
